Java Auto-Update Upgrades JRE 7 to 8

on Friday, January 2, 2015

If your users are running JRE 7 with auto-update enabled, they will be automatically upgraded to JRE 8 with the January 2015 CPU release on January 20, 2015.  This affects Windows and Mac desktops.

Will do EBS sysadmins need to do?

If you do not have Auto-Update enabled on your end-users' desktops, you don't need to do anything.

JRE 8 is certified with all current EBS releases: EBS 11i, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2.  If you have Auto-Update enabled, you need to apply server-side patches to make your EBS environment compatible with JRE 8.

Java Runtime Environment 1.8.0_25 (a.k.a. JRE 8u25-b18) and later updates on the JRE 8 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2 for Windows and Mac OS X desktop clients.
